Individual therapy or Couples therapy with John

Skilled professionals

John has been providing individual therapy since 1994

Love, life, laughter

Experiencing more love, celebrating life and being able to laugh genuinely. When things don't flow for a long time, you lose touch with yourself and those around you. Contacts become more difficult and tensions mount. Tensions arise because you do not take yourself seriously, do not listen to your feelings, constantly repeat negative thoughts within yourself, ignore inner impulses, approach everything and everyone very rationally, to name a few examples.

Under the spell of emotions or emotionlessness

Blocked emotions can make life very unpleasant. Sadness, anger or fear can have a paralysing grip because you don't know how to deal with these feelings. It may be that emotions dominate your life and constantly overwhelm you.

You may also have lost touch with your feelings and become flat. Everything seems monotonous and has become a drag. In either case, you have lost listening to your heart and are too much in your head and thoughts.

Inner peace of the heart

Inner peace is found by listening to the voice of your heart. You recognise the voice of your heart by the way it talks to you. The heart speaks only in positivity and never in negativity. Imposing obligations on yourself or telling yourself not to do something anymore is the voice of the mind. The heart speaks lovingly, mildly and encouragingly. The more you learn to listen to that gentle voice inside yourself, the calmer it becomes inside.

The mind is used to plan, analyse and solve problems. The mind is especially useful in the outside world. The heart you use to experience love for yourself and others. It is the way to let that love blossom in yourself. When you love yourself, you can also approach your loving partner gently and the relationship can blossom.

My motto: Love for Life.

I'm happy to invite you for a conversation, on your own or with the partner/people you want to bring along. I also give fascinating and instructive groups and workshops, more information on which can be found elsewhere on this website.

Processing and letting go

A profound inner process

In therapy-land, much is said about processing, letting go and you have to accept it; without making clear what this means in concrete terms. People regularly try to rationally come up with a solution for emotional events. However, this ignores the function that emotions have for human well-being. An emotion goes beyond rationally explaining or resolving the event.

An emotion is a sign that something affects you deeply and the emerging feeling makes this clear. The mind may not be able to understand those emotions, often disagrees with them and wants to resist all those unpleasant feelings. Emotions don't care what the mind thinks and physically a process takes place over which you seem to have little influence.

Releasing emotional pain: how to help your body release old pain and trauma

Emotional processes always cause tension when the process of experience is blocked or interrupted. Young children have not yet developed a mechanism to block emotions and that is where you see the immediate expression of feelings. As you grow up, you learn to control your emotions more and more. Usually this means pushing them away and block the feelings you have.

Taking emotions seriously brings you closer to yourself

Processing basically means unblocking the emotional process and restoring the interrupted lines. Releasing is literally discharging tension that has accumulated in the body, sometimes an accumulation of years of withholding, control or mastery. To deal with issues means the understanding how tension can hold you in its grip and subsequently releasing it with care and attention.

My method consists of balancing the rational, emotional and also spiritual layers in yourself. In many cases, the rational layer is one-sidedly developed because we live in a knowledge culture.

Emotions are subjected to denial and considered something negative from an early age. As a child, you were told not to act up, hold yourself up, try harder or otherwise punished if you showed your emotions.

In fact, expressing your emotion is nothing but a very basic communication of your deeper feelings. It is precisely by taking your emotion seriously that you get closer to your own being. It is therefore enormously liberating to learn that this is another layer in yourself, which you can also very consciously harness and use for your own well-being.

Spirituality is often not understood and quickly dismissed as woolly nonsense. You can see the spirit or soul as your deepest being, that part where your passion and love originate. Just follow your passion, love and inspiration in a very down-to-earth way, that's what it's really all about!

A clear approach

Assertiveness, Self-confidence, Getting a grip on feelings, Breathwork and more

These are the kinds of help requests that people sign up for therapy:

  • Physical restlessness or tension

  • Difficulty making real contact or connection

  • Letting go of someone or something and saying goodbye

  • Getting stuck in conflict with partner, friends or family, work

  • Coping with a (very) unpleasant experience (from a short or long time ago)

  • Missing happiness or meaning

  • Finding and experiencing inner peace

  • Getting stuck in pondering or thought patterns

  • Choice stress

  • Lack of self-confidence and/or assertiveness

  • Overburdened or (near) burn-out

Flexible and personal

‘My approach is flexible and personal. My gratitude is still great for the learning I received from Siddharta van Langen and Augela van Aubel, where I enjoyed taking the 4-year HBO vocational training to become a Neo-Hypnotherapist (body-oriented psychotherapy) and later the 2-year training to work with Family Constellations. Not only did I learn therapeutic skills, my attitude to life changed dramatically. The methods and techniques I learned have become so much my own that they have created my own way of working. Partly as a result of the many training sessions I give together with Sanne, we have developed working models that offer practical tools for self-insight.

I also followed various studies in the field of nutrition and health, including at the Natura Foundation in Numansdorp. Furthermore, I keep myself up to date with continuing education that fascinates me, such as the Emotionally Focused Relationship Therapy programme ‘Hold on to me’ according to Sue Johnson's vision at training institute BivT.’

This is what the individual therapy programme looks like:

  • You start with an introductory conversation, in which we clarify together what you want to achieve. We make an overview of the experiences you have had and which could possibly be the cause of your imbalance.

  • 1 or 2 weeks later, you will have your first follow-up session of 1¼ hours, in which we get to the heart of your imbalance.

  • These follow-up sessions are then every 1, 2 or 3 weeks, tailored to your needs. For some, 5 follow-up sessions are enough and for others, 15 is a good start. It all depends on the experiences you've been through and the desire to really want to change.

  • Over time, more time can be planned between sessions. There is also the possibility of doing a follow-up call over a few months, so that there is still a moment of back talk.

  • Organic coffee or tea is available free of charge.

  • Telephone consultations under 10 minutes are included free of charge.

Since when has John been providing therapy and training?

John gave the first session in the autumn of 1994 and since then he has guided many people in a therapy or training programme. It's his passion to guide people and support them in their personal development.
The common thread in his work is for people to find more self-acceptance, love and compassion for themselves.
His coaching is full of empathy, humour and lightness; he reflects, confronts, supports, guides and hugs where necessary. There is room to laugh, cry and express anger. He takes fear seriously by taking you by the hand and embarking on the adventure together.

What studies did John undertake to be able to provide therapy and training?

In 1997, he graduated as a Neo-Hypnotherapist from the 4-year HBO vocational course at the New Men Academy in Meerseldreef, Belgium.
He chose this study because it went beyond studying theory. It was important to him that knowledge comes from within rather than theoretical models. His studies were an intense personal learning process and this personal learning experience is allowing him to pass on the knowledge he had gained to others naturally.

Through his studies, he came into contact with the vision of Osho, an Indian mystic and spiritual teacher, and through this he found a deep inner silence within himself.

Osho's vision and his studies to become a Neo-Hypnotherapist form the basic of his work. In addition, he followed many courses, trainings and education in the field of personal development and health. He integrates all this knowledge in his own way into effective counselling of people.

Characteristic:

  • His inner peace
  • Open attitude and a listening ear
  • Quick to get to the core
  • Confrontational and straightforward
  • Honest and sincere
